3 reasons the Bills should draft Quarterback… Read more
1. You know all about the bloodlines. Kelly is, of course, the nephew of Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly. He’s also got the swagger of his uncle. While there would undoubtedly be pressure to live up to the Kelly name, there is something downright intriguing about the possibility of the Bills’ quarterback crisis being solved this way. While Kelly’s off-field issues, including an arrest outside a downtown restaurant, have occurred in Buffalo, he would have family support to lean on.
2. He got it done in the SEC. Kelly’s 12 career 300-yard passing games are the most in Ole Miss history. He set 25 school records (game, season, career) and finished his career ranked in the top 10 in school history in career passing yards (third), attempts (seventh), completions (fourth), and passing touchdowns (third). As a junior in 2015, he won the Sugar Bowl MVP while leading Ole Miss to wins over Alabama, Auburn and LSU in the same year for the first time in school history.
3. He’s a potential bargain. Kelly’s off-field issues are only one reason he’s expected to last until Day Three of the draft. There is also significant concern about his injury history, which includes tearing the ACL in his right knee twice, and most recently needing wrist surgery upon injuring himself after just 12 throws during the Ole Miss Pro Day. Because of those reasons, it’s possible Kelly isn’t even drafted.
They said it: “He’s not your typical sleeper because he’s pretty well known. He’s going to go late if he goes at all. But somebody is going to get a bargain with starting-caliber traits you can work with.” – NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock
