Breaking news: Young WR will sing with Seahakws
The Seattle Seahawks love to remind everyone that they’re always looking to improve at every position and they may be looking to add some major competition to their wide receiving corp.
According to NFL draft expert Tony Pauline, the Seahawks are eager to grab wide receiver Zay Jones in the second-round, if he should fall to them. Currently, CBSSports has him ranked as the 62nd best prospect and the Seahawks pick at 57 on day two of the draft.
On the flip side, experts like ESPN’s Mel Kiper have Jones going much earlier in the second round.
Jones was spectacular at East Carolina, earning more playing time each year and improving his production. After 62 receptions as a freshman, he exploded as a sophomore. In 13 games, he managed 830 yards and five touchdowns on 81 receptions. After becoming a full-time starter as a junior and senior, he posted back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons with a 158 receptions and eight touchdowns coming as a senior — all while setting the FBS record for career receptions.
The 6-2, 201-pound wideout showed a good combination of speed, athleticism and strength at the combine. He ran a 4.45 on his 40-yards dash while leaping over 36 inches in his vertical leap and tallying 15 reps on the bench. Still doubts remains about his burst, strength and athleticism on the field.
Though, the Seahawks seem sound at wide receiver; it wouldn’t be a surprise for them to take one early, considering Jermaine Kearse could be on the chopping block next offseason.
