Breaking news: The Green Bay Packers will sign with big talented linebacker
Tim Williams has had his share of off-the-field issues at Alabama. However, there is no denying his talent on the field, which is why he will likely be a early pick in the second day.
The Green Bay Packers could use Williams’ skill set, but are they willing to take on the baggage that comes with him? Here’s a closer look at the Alabama linebacker.
College stats (career): 57 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 20 sacks
How he fits on Packers: Williams has explosiveness off the edge and the Packers need more help in the pass rushing department. Also, his speed is something the Packers need as they don’t have a player that can really fly to the football.
Strengths: Williams has the quickness you want in an outside linebacker. He has great leg drive and his spin move was a big reason he recorded a lot of sacks in two seasons with the Crimson Tide.
CBS Sports: “Williams’ off-field issues and inability to remain on the field as a full-time defender warrant a careful review but he may just be the most explosive edge rusher in the 2017 draft. Further, with experience rushing out of both the two and three point stances, Williams offers schematic versatility.”
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com: “Alabama has the type of talent and scheme on defense that can make life much easier for everyone along the front seven, but Williams has explosiveness and pass-rush talent to create his own havoc as a pass rusher regardless of what is around him. Scouts say he is lighter than his listed weight and needs to prove he can play with increased toughness in order to reach his potential. Williams’ career might be as a pass-rush specialist, but he’s talented enough at that endeavor to become a dangerous rush linebacker in the NFL.”
