Breaking news:How will the Raiders fill the gap at linebacker? They have solution
Unlike most fifth round draft picks, Marquel Lee has a solid shot at earning early playing time in his first year with the Raiders.
The former Wake Forest linebacker, drafted No. 168, says he’s already feeling the pressure to step into a big role during his rookie season. If it’s not from the hundreds of Raiders fans who have flooded his direct messages on Twitter, it’s from learning that he’ll be wearing Jack Del Rio’s former No. 55.
For now, Lee and free agent weakside linebacker Jelani Jenkins are the only two additions Oakland has made to its linebacker group. Del Rio made it known that the Raiders have a long way to go at the position before being ready to play its first game.
On this episode of Bay Area Sports Insiders, Courtney Cronin is joined by Raiders beat writer Jimmy Durkin to discuss the Raiders in the weeks following the NFL Draft, where the team will look to bolster its linebacker depth over the next few months, how first round pick Gareon Conley’s versatility fits into the defensive backfield, who this year’s undrafted-free-agent-turned-star-standout might be and what’s next for Oakland with OTAs on the horizon.
