The San Francisco 49ers have reported the release of linebacker Sean Porter, which, following the trade of tight end Vance McDonald to the Pittsburgh Steelers, now gives the group 87 players on the active roster. The 49ers should cut that number down to 53 by 1 p.m. PT on Saturday.

Porter was signed on August 9 following the release of offensive lineman Jeremy Zuttah. He was initially drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round (118th generally) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Porter missed his rookie season because of injury yet showed up in one game with Cincinnati in 2014. In 2015, he started the season on the physically-unfit to-perform list and was postponed on November 30, 2015.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Porter on December 7, 2015 to their training squad. In 2016, Porter stayed on the training squad and was later elevated to the active roster. He saw activity in two games with the Jaguars yet was released on May 1, 2017.
